Serena Williams's muscular figure has seen her endure criticism for being less than feminine.

But it was another part of the stunning athlete's body that caught the attention when she turned up at a magazine cover party.

The tennis champion revealed a remarkably fresh-faced look which prompted speculation she may have succumbed to the surgeon's knife.

Serena attended the Hamptons Magazine Cover Party with Grey Goose at Pranna in New York in a leopard print dress.

But it wasn't her outfit that people were studying. The tennis star's new look ignited a flurry of speculation online over whether she'd undergone a cosmetic procedure or if it was just an amazing makeover.

The No. 1 tennis seed recently withdrew from the U.S. Open to give herself time to recover from surgery to repair cuts on her right foot.

People said: 'Williams was reportedly hurt by a broken glass at a restaurant while she was in Munich – shortly after winning her fourth Wimbledon singles title – last month and had surgery on July 15. '

Whatever the truth of the matter, there's no denying that the younger Williams sister looked stunning even with the handicap of a leg brace.

Although looking fresh-faced, Serena feels like her leg brace is letting down her look and is upset about only being able to wear flat shoes at the moment.

'When I get injured, it's devastating because I know I won't be able to wear heels. I'm practically in tears,' she said.

But Serena added she is using the down time to complete numerous projects while not on the court.

'I can actually use the recovery time. I'm so active trying to produce television shows now and writing.
