Back in the frame: Phil Jagielka

Phil Jagielka is in line for an England recall as Fabio Capello prepares to name the first squad since his team flopped at the World Cup finals.

Jagielka, who missed much of last season with a serious knee injury, is set to be involved in the Wembley friendly against Hungary on Wednesday.

The 27-year-old Everton defender won his first cap against Trinidad and Tobago, two years ago, but has not played since appearing as a substitute in April 2009 in the World Cup qualifier against Ukraine.

Arsenal youngsters Kieran Gibbs and Jack Wilshere are also poised for their first call-ups to Capello’s squad.

Wingers Adam Johnson and Theo Walcott are set for recalls after they were cut from the World Cup squad.

Jermain Defoe has a slight groin strain and Capello will not call up any players struggling with injury, especially those who were at the World Cup.

Bobby Zamora, Darren Bent and Gabriel Agbonlahor are among the strikers in contention.

John Terry will be included despite leading the dissent against Capello’s regime in South Africa, before backing down when there was little support from his team-mates.

Capello was unimpressed but has decided he cannot do without the Chelsea captain as he plans for Euro 2012.
