Her growing input appeared to have done no harm at all when the British No 1 took the Canadian Open title with victory over Roger Federer and then made the quarter-final of the Cincinnati Masters.
She returned home this week but is back in the Big Apple this weekend in time for his first round match against Slovakian journeyman Lukas Lacko.
Although TV pictures of her getting animated during her son's matches might suggest otherwise, Judy would rather keep a low profile.
In form: Andy MurrayBut she has become an increasingly important figure, going back to before Murray's decision to part company with coach Miles Maclagan after Wimbledon.
Judy is said to have asked the BBC for DVDs of matches involving her son and other players to apply what is, within the game, acknowledged as her unusual technical expertise.
When Britain played Turkey in the Davis Cup, captain Leon Smith used Judy on an informal basis to scout the opposition.
'What she is very good at is picking up two or three points of strategy that are good to use against a specific opponent and getting them across in a way that is easy for a player to understand,' said Smith.
'From what I've seen of Andy here he seems in a good frame of mind and he has been playing some very good tennis.'
Judy is careful not to crowd Andy out, and in Canada and Cincinnati she is said to have texted him a few pointers before each match and that may have helped him produce his best tennis since January.
