U-turn: Paul Scholes retired from international football six years agoManchester United midfielder Paul Scholes must tell the FA he wants to return to international duty before Fabio Capello will even consider him for England.
The manager wants the FA to take more of a role in determining which players are available, especially stars like Mikel Arteta and Manuel Almunia.
On Wednesday night sources close to Capello said he had no intention of picking Spaniard Arteta for the Euro qualifiers against Bulgaria and Switzerland, leaving it to the FA to determine if they want players who only qualify on residency grounds.
Capello is also in no real rush to pursue Scholes, 35, who regretted not going to the World Cup after rejecting an invitation to go.
Yet Scholes, who retired six years ago, has since hinted the desire to play for England has subsided, although Wayne Rooney yesterday said he would love to see his club-mate in the national side again.
He said: ‘Paul would be one of our best players and I’d be delighted to see him back.’
