Reconciliation?: Coleen Rooney arrives separately at the home she shares with cheating husband Wayne

Wayne and Coleen Rooney last night patched up their marriage – but the England star was told that if he strays again their relationship is over for good.

The 24-year-old footballer has been taken back by his wife after it emerged he cheated on her with two prostitutes while she was pregnant.

The couple returned separately to their Cheshire mansion, where Mrs Rooney, also 24, is reported to have immediately laid down strict rules.

A friend of the couple told the Daily Mail: ‘Things are looking better and they are talking about a future together.’

Another close friend said Mrs Rooney wanted to give their marriage another chance, if only on a trial basis, and that her husband had agreed to ‘a variety of different rules’.

‘Coleen has told him if it ever happens again that will be it. The end of the marriage.

‘It will mean an end to his nights out with the lads for a long time to come and is a chance to rebuild the trust they once had. He has told her it was all a terrible mistake and he has learned his lesson.’

Concerned: Coleen and Rosie are snapped arriving at Old Trafford last October. Coleen is keeping a vigil by her hospital bedside

The Rooneys’ relationship has been in turmoil since newspaper revelations that the Manchester United striker had paid for liaisons with £1,200-a-night prostitute Jenny Thompson, 21, and her friend Helen Wood, 23.

But yesterday they were reconciled as Mrs Rooney – who had been staying with her parents in Liverpool with the couple’s ten-month-old son Kai – returned to the family home with her clothes on hangers in the back of her Range Rover.

Her husband arrived an hour-and-a-half later and the couple remained indoors for the rest of the day. Their discussions came after Rooney was given permission to miss Manchester United’s 3-3 draw with Everton on Saturday so he could focus properly on his domestic problems.

The week has been all the more traumatic for Mrs Rooney as she has also been helping to care for her seriously ill sister. Rosie, 12, has Brett’s Syndrome and is in intensive care at Liverpool’s Alder Hey hospital after reportedly suffering a stroke.

She broke away from her bedside at the Alder Hey hospital for a few hours on Saturday afternoon to hold crisis talks with Wayne over reports of the Manchester United star sleeping with prostitutes while Coleen was pregnant with their son Kai.

But Mrs Rooney had given her husband a positive signal when she was spotted in public on Thursday still wearing her wedding ring.

On Friday the Rooneys released a joint statement asking for time alone together to work on their marriage. They stated that the ‘last six days have been extremely painful for us and for our families’.

Despite missing Saturday’s game, Rooney has since returned to training with Manchester United, looking relaxed as he fooled around with fellow players.

His attitude may not be unconnected with the fact that his infidelity might well not affect his sponsorship deals.

Contracts with Nike and EA Sports, which have boosted his personal fortune to £35million, appear to be safe.
