Watch out Lewis, looks like Nicole's feeling a bit broody

Family affair: Lewis Hamilton tucks into the celebratory bubbly aftre his win in Montreal as Nicole Scherzinger carries her niece Lillliana in Montreal

There isn't much that slows Lewis Hamilton down. But family life might.

After rekindling his relationship with Pussycat Doll, Nicole Scherzinger, the two were looking more in love than ever after his sensational Grand Prix win yesterday.

Victory in Montreal was Hamilton's second in a row and put him top of the Drivers' Championship for the first time since he became champion in 2008.

His pop star girlfriend was in the pit lane cheering him on but for much of the race she was holding her young niece, Lilliana, and she certainly seemed comfortable in the pose - leaving observers to wonder if she might be getting a little broody

After all, the Honolulu-born singer is seven years older than Lewis at 32 and will be aware the body clock is ticking as she follows him round the world's race circuits.

However, she has just reformed a new-look Pussycat Dolls line-up on the back of her Dancing With The Stars win so perhaps she isn't planning to settle down just yet.

It was in Canada that Hamilton's stratospheric route to the top of the F1 tree really kicked off, with his first grand prix win in 2007.

On Saturday, he conjured a magical flying lap to claim pole position and then kept his nose in front despite briefly being dispossessed of the lead by Fernando Alonso.

Jenson Button, his McLaren team-mate, claimed second place for the second successive race after Turkey a week ago.

Last year's world champion now sits three points behind Hamilton in the title race and could represent his biggest challenge to the younger man reclaiming his crown.

Hamilton has 13 grands prix wins to his name but experts consider this to be one of his most complete races to date.

'It has been a tremendous weekend,' he said. 'The race was one of the toughest so far but that's what you want. You want a fight.'

The Drivers' Championship is turning into a vintage battle with Australian Mark Webber, his Red Bull team-mate Sebastian Vettel and Ferrari's Alonso also serious contenders, with only 19 point separating the five men.

'I think you can see how tight the championship is,' Hamilton said. 'It is the ultimate competition I have faced in my time in Formula One, maybe it's the toughest in Formula One history.'

Which might explain his broad grin long after the champagne celebrations on the podium - or perhaps it was the sight of beautiful girlfriend waiting to congratulate him.

Nicole was by far the most glamorous woman on view in a dress bearing McLaren's red colours, with a broad-brimmed black hat and huge, gold-rimmed shades.

Lilliana was also bedecked in the team colours and seemed to enjoy herself even if the noise levels would have been dangerously high.

But that's life in the fast lane in the Lewis Hamilton fan club - at least until Miss Scherzinger puts the brakes on.
