Not an Englishman in sight at Wimbledon. Thank goodness our man Murray looks in mint condition

In the running for Wimbledon: Andy Murray at the track yesterday

He has the hopes of a nation resting on his shoulders.

So with Wimbledon starting on Monday, it's lucky those shoulders are looking in tip-top condition.

And while he's not been in the best of form recently, Andy Murray's chiselled physique at least gives us hope that this could, finally, be Britain's year.

The Scot was put through his paces by his fitness team at a running track in Wimbledon Park, South London, yesterday.

But they seemingly forgot one thing - some suntan lotion.

In the hot summer sun, Murray, 23, looked decidedly red at the end of the session.

Despite his recent setbacks --including a humiliating defeat at Queen's - Murray has been seeded fourth at Wimbledon.

He will be joined in the competition by fellow Scot Jamie Baker --but no English players will be challenging for the title.

That predicament has particularly irked Tim Henman. Yesterday the 35-year-old said it was 'ridiculous' there weren't more English players excelling.

'When are our players going to accept more responsibility for themselves?' he asked.

'You are always hearing complaints about lack of funding, demanding to have a new coach, or the parents complaining about something.

'Ultimately it comes down to the player himself.'
