Now his wife Alex Curran is following suit by getting her very own pair of studded shoes too.
Admittedly, they are quite different in style to those of Liverpool star Stevie G's footie boots.
The WAG was pictured wearing the must have Christian Louboutin studded black ballet shoes as she left the hairdressers in Liverpool today.
She teamed her look with casual jeans, a striped top and her favourite Balmain jacket, complete with a huge brooch.
The 27-year-old looked in good shape, having recently shed a stone and putting her weight loss down to a healthy diet and exercise.
However, a few weeks ago she was pictured with a box Sea Kelp pills which can be used to aid weight loss, although she has since insisted she was not using them to lose weight.Health experts have blasted the tablets and warned against using them because of the lack of research into their long-term effects.
She told this week's OK magazine: 'A friend looked really well and told me she'd been taking vitamins and Sea Kelp for her hair, and because I had hair extensions for seven years I go some.
'But suddenly I was accused of using diet pills - apparently they speed up your metabolism. It was all blown out of proportion.'
Mother of two Alex said she has gone from over 9½st at her heaviest to around 8½st.
To get in shape she does an hour-and-a-half of exercise each week and eats a healthy diet, including porridge, tuna salad and fish and vegetables for dinner.
She has also reduced her alcohol intake, going out now just once a month, and the amount of chocolate she eats.
