Wigan 2 Wolves 0: Jordi Gomez and Hugo Rodallega seal win after Karl Henry sees red

Double top: Hugo Rodallega sealed the three points for Wigan

Karl Henry can expect a rollocking from manager Mick McCarthy after his latest reckless tackle resulted in an early red card and contributed to Wolves fourth successive Premier League defeat.

After his bruising battle with Newcastle's Joey Barton and the committed tackle which resulted in Fulham's Bobby Zamora being sidelined for several months with a broken right leg and torn ankle ligaments, Henry has been earning himself a hard-man reputation this season.

McCarthy has remained loyal and defended Henry's physical style, but intends to discuss the 11th-minute challenge, which sent Wigan midfielder Jordi Gomez flying through the air and gave referee Lee Mason no option but to send him off.

Gomez broke the deadlock with a superb 63rd-minute free kick and Hugo Rodallega secured Wigan's first home victory of season in the closing moments which plunges Wolves into the relegation zone.

'Of course I will speak to him,' admitted McCarthy. 'That's not really for immediately after the game when emotions are running high. For the benefit of everybody concerned it's best kept until Monday.

'With Karl being in the media so often recently, it was never going to be any other result than a red card, but it was the right decision.'

Wigan boss Roberto Martinez. 'I can't remember a worse tackle than that at the DW Stadium, probably because of the position of it. I was only 10 yards away and the noise of the knee against Jordi's shin pad was a nasty moment.'
