Didier Drogba urges Liverpool star Fernando Torres to join him at Chelsea

Kop that! Torres could be on his way this summer with Chelsea and City reportedly interested

Didier Drogba will welcome Fernando Torres to Stamford Bridge with open arms if Chelsea pull off a sensational £70million deal for the Liverpool striker.

Sportsmail revealed exclusively last week that Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has set the wheels in motion for a deal that would beat the English club record, Rio Ferdinand's £29.1m move to Manchester United from Leeds eight years ago.

And Drogba would be delighted to join Torres in a partnership that would strike fear into the hearts of defenders everywhere.

'Of course I would welcome Torres,' said the Golden Boot winner, who has scored a staggering 36 goals this season. 'Every time a new player comes here, it makes the club bigger and gives us a lot of strength.

'If there is a chance for him to come here, he will be welcome, because any help is welcome!'

Phone a friend: Drogba says he is happy to play alongside Torres at Chelsea

Manchester City are also chasing Torres, should Liverpool be tempted to cash in. And like Chelsea, City have had positive noises from Torres's camp.

But with the Blues on the verge of a historic double and Carlo Ancelotti able to offer Champions League football, the 26-year-old may feel his best option is a move there, having not won a trophy with Liverpool.
